What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a common chronic skin condition, which is more frequently found in women between the age of 30 to 50. Rosacea causes redness, pimples, and lumps on the nose and face, which may be caused by overactive blood vessels that increase blood flow to your skin. At the beginning stage, redness and blood vessels may be seen only in the central part of your face. As your condition worsens, small blood vessels on your nose and cheeks swell and become visible, and your face will develop pimples that resemble acne. These bumps sometimes contain pus. In severe cases, rosacea can thicken the skin on the nose, oil glands (sebaceous glands) in your nose and sometimes your cheeks become enlarged, causing the nose to appear bulbous (rhinophyma).
