Excessive Hair Loss

Each human hair follicle passes through three phases: anagen, catagen, and telogen. On average, there are 150,000 hairs on the human scalp, of which 90%-95% are in the anagen phase and the remaining 5%-10% are in the telogen phase, meaning these hairs will fall out naturally over time.

Under normal circumstances, about 50 to 100 hairs fall out every day because each hair follicle is in a different stage of the growth cycle. However, if the number of hairs falling out daily is significantly more than this, or if sudden abnormal hair loss occurs, be cautious! Losing a large clump of hair with a casual grasp may be a warning sign of a hair loss crisis.

 

Hair loss can be caused by many reasons. Genetic influence is one of the biggest factors, common in men. For example, androgenic alopecia is based on androgen-dependent genetics. Hormone secretion can also cause hair loss; for instance, during pregnancy, childbirth, or menopause, endocrine changes affect hair growth.

Environmental factors may also impact hair health and growth. Prolonged exposure to harsh conditions, such as pollutants, ultraviolet radiation, and extreme climates, can cause hair to become brittle and prone to breakage. Frequent use of chemical products and hot tools like overheated hair dryers, perms, and curling irons can also damage hair, causing it to lose its shine and elasticity.

Personal lifestyle and habits can significantly affect hair health. Poor nutrition and an unbalanced diet may deprive hair of essential nutrients such as protein, iron, zinc, and vitamins. These nutrients are crucial for hair growth and health, so a poor diet can lead to weak and brittle hair. Other factors include scalp infections, diseases, and medications.

Stress and anxiety are also common contributors to hair loss. Prolonged exposure to high stress levels causes the body to release stress hormones such as cortisol, which can negatively affect the normal functioning of hair follicles, leading to hair thinning and increasing the risk of hair loss. Additionally, anxiety and stress can lead to abnormal behaviors, such as excessive hair pulling or frequent use of hair styling tools, further damaging hair health.%
